| About Us |
UPFH is a charitable organization providing funding for the provision of medical & ancillary services to the uninsured in Salt Lake County and surrounding areas.
Medical director Brian Zehnder founded UPFH when he saw an increased need to assist the medically underserved in our community. Initially operating out of just two clinics, UPFH now works within 11. We also travel with a mobile clinic to disenfranchised communities, where patients we serve lack access to healthcare due to cultural disparities. Most lack both income and insurance.
Since our inception in 2003, we've funded over $2.9 million in healthcare costs. Our services continue to expand every year, and in 2009 alone, we provided access to care for 5,463 patient visits valued at $738,620 in healthcare costs. UPFH has experienced tremendous growth, and during our first 6 years we averaged a 67 percent increase in patients served annually.
UPFH is able to leverage $5.91 in direct medical care for every $1.oo donated because our medical providers and lab companies volunteer the majority of their time and expenses to the growing number of uninsured Utahns. The uniqueness of the Utah Partners for Health access model is that we work within "for-profit" clinics and with health professionals who choose to donate charity care to those in need. We, therefore, do not pay for a building, supplies, or staffing, and 95 percent of funding goes directly to services. |
