Naloxone

In case of Opioid Overdose

Opioid overdose is a life-threatening condition that can be reversed. Naloxone is a safe medication approved by UPFH doctors and offered for free at UPFH clinics. To use, open the package to see if the kit is a nasal spray or an injectable. In emergencies, call 911 immediately.

Nasal Spray Instructions

1. Call 911
2. Insert nozzle far into nostril
3. Press plunger firmly
4. If symptoms persist 3-5 minutes, give a new dose. Do not wait more than 5 minutes.

Injection Instructions

1. Call 911
2. Remove cap. Stick needle through rubber stopper. Pull back plunger. Draw in fluid (not air). 
3. Inject needle straight into muscle in the shoulder (like a flu shot) or into the front of the thigh. Push down on the plunger to empty the syringe. It is OK to inject through clothing.
4. If symptoms persist 3-5 minutes, give a new dose. Do not wait more than 5 minutes.
